Description
ADCOAT RUST CONVERTER AND PRIMERThe best way to eliminate and remove rust from metal
ONE-STEP SOLUTION:
This powerful paint chemically penetrates and converts existing rust and leaves behind a high quality latex metal primer. No need for sanding or sandblasting. It paints on milky white and once the chemical conversion takes place, the rust is eliminated and the paint dries to a black, primed and paintable surface. By sealing out moisture, it extends the life of metal equipment and prevents future corrosion.
HOW TO REMOVE RUST FROM METAL:
...and prevent rust from coming back? AdCoat Rust Converter and Primer creates a permanent chemical bond, reacting with rust and converting it to a layer of magnetite; a black iron oxide mineral which does not react with oxygen or moisture. Your new surface will be rust proof. In addition, it doubles as a high quality latex metal primer and bonding agent for oil-based coatings - such as acrylic, enamel, epoxy, polyurethane and moisture-cured urethane - AND waterbased coatings not susceptible to tannin staining.
APPLIED LIKE PAINT:
Once painted on to a rusted surface, rust is permanently converted, primed, sealed and ready for topcoat.
USES:
Ideal for metal equipment and metal structures - marine, industrial, farming, household, automotive, construction and industrial rust problems. Additional details below.

SURFACE PREPARATION
:
The type and extent of surface preparation will vary with the nature of the surface, its condition and the type of exposure. The primary purpose of surface preparation is to remove all contaminants that would hinder proper adhesion and to render a sound clean substrate suitable for firm bonding. All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dust, oil, grease, form releases, wax, polish, mold/mildew, loose rust scale, loose or peeling paint, salts and other debris or surface contaminants. Clean with a strong detergent or power wash to clean surface. For heavy oil deposits several cleanings may be necessary.
ADCOAT Rust Converter and Primer
works best on clean, tightly adhered rust and well bonded old paint
.
It is also proven effective on new degreased or mild steel where flash-rusting has occurred.
Warning:
If you scrape sand or remove old paint from any surface, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a wet mop or HEPA vacuum. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and family by contacting the U.S. EPA/Lead Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323) or log on to

ADCOAT Rust Converter and Primer
thoroughly by hand avoiding air entrapment.
Do Not Thin.
APPLICATION:
Remove loose rust and peeling paint with a wire brush, then apply
ADCOAT Rust Converter
by brush, roller, or sprayer in one continuous coat measuring 8-10 mils wet thickness. Make sure no pinholes or air bubbles are left on the coating. Check mils thickness throughout application making sure to recoat where mil reader cuts into surface. A test patch is always recommended first.
Once the white coating changes to black, rust conversion has begun. If a grey coating appears, a second coat of
ADCOAT Rust Converter and Primer
can be applied while the first coat is still tacky. A second coat of
ADCOAT Rust Converter
will provide a greater level of protection.
Note, if the surface is very hot, mist with water before applying
ADCOAT Rust Converter and Primer.
COVERAGE
:
Up to
200
square feet per gallon dependent upon surface condition and profile.
NOTE
Estimates do not account for surface irregularity, porosity, of substrate, applicator technique or overspray.
DRY TIME:
Allow to dry 24 hours before applying topcoat.
TOPCOATING
: Apply all topcoats according to manufacturer’s specifications.
ADCOAT Rust Converter and Primer
is an excellent bonding agent for oil-based intermediate and finish coatings of epoxy, enamel, acrylic, polyurethane and moisture-cured urethane. Water based coatings may require an oil based stain blocker as an intermediate application if they are subject to tannin staining. Use oil based marine or
industrial coatings
for best weather protection. A test patch is always recommended.
