5 gallon pail of High Calcium Lime putty. Aged 22+ years
Our putties are carefully prepared from high calcium
quick lime
and hand slaked
with
distilled water
for maximum purity
.
We hand slake in only
distilled
water. We then wet sieve to remove any small lumps and then age the putty in distilled water covered vats. We maintain our equipment and vats in spotless condition and age our putties in a below
ground cellar
with naturally controlled uniform temperatures of 55F to 60F all year round. Like wine, properly aged lime putty improves with time.
We use the finest domestic high calcium limestone not
dolomitic
limestone used for ordinary masonry and plastering purposes.
At times the word "imported" seems to carry, in the minds of the uninitiated, the notion of "better". We suffer from no such insecurity in saying we feel these are the finest lime putties and the fact that they come from North American mines changes nothing when it comes to quality. Most imported and domestic putties do not use distilled water and even try to say that dirty pieces of hardened dried lime add to the "artisanal" panache! That is just a lame excuse for sloppy and lax preparation and storage! Do not be fooled.
I personally slake and package all our putty. It is not a business, it is a labor of love.The 375 gallon batch we are releasing at this time was slaked in 1996 and hence has been hydrating and aging for over 22 years. Try finding any lime putty for sale that has been aged as long! When this batch is sold we will release the 1998 slaking.
Artists use our age lime putty for true fresco, coarse stuff scratch and base coats and lime washes.
Please check out other lime putty companies. They have hydrated their lime putty for 30 days! No mention if
their
