THE STYLE AT THE TIME WAS TO HAVE SOCKS WITH WHITE FEET AND BLACK TOPS, HE SAID. SINCE NO AMERICAN DYE WAS COLORFAST, THE ADCOCK BROTHERS BOUGHT GERMAN DYE. BUT WHEN WORLD WAR 1 BROKE OUT, NEW TRADE BARRIERS KEPT THEM FROM GETTING THE DYE, AND THEY WERE FORCED TO QUIT. THEY TRIED IT, BUT AMERICAN DYES RAN DOWN INTO THE FEET, AND THEN PEOPLE DIDN'T WANT THEM. ADCOCK SAID OF THE SOCKS. THEN THEY TRIED JUST MAKING WHITE ONES, BUT PEOPLE DIDN'T WANT THOSE BECAUSE THEY WERE USED TO THE STYLE. THE SOCKS WERE SOLD IN CARDBOARD CONTAINERS, WITH SIX PAIRS OF ADCOCK PER BOX. HOLT ADCOCK, WHOSE SILVER BELT BUCKLE BEARS AN "A" FOR HIS FAMILY INITIAL HAS KEPT A BOX OF BLACK-AND- WHITES. THEY ARE MARKED " FULL SEAMLESS MEN'S SUPERIOR HALF HOSE. FAST DYE. HIGH SPLICED HEELS AND TOES." THIS AUCTION IS FOR FOUR PAIRS OF SOCKS, FROM ADCOCK'S LAST BOX OF BLACK, AND WHITE, SOCKS. THE SOCKS ARE NEW, OLD STOCK.
